Born and raised in Korea, we grew up surrounded by the culture of late-night food, street-side pochas, loud conversations, and tables filled with shared dishes and soju bottles. Those memories stayed with us long after moving to the United States.
James has lived in U.S. for over 25years, and Brian for more than 15. Having spent much of our lives between two cultures, we came to realize something was missing: the feeling of home we remembered from Korea. Not just the food itself, but the atmosphere around it. The energy, the warmth, the late nights, and the sense of connection that pocha culture creates.
As longtime friends who always shared a love for food, drinks, and unforgettable nights, we eventually decided to create the kind of place we personally missed most. That idea became New Village Gastro Pub.
New Village is our way of bringing authentic Korean night culture to Chicago. A place where people can gather around sizzling dishes, cold drinks, karaoke, and conversation. A place that feels nostalgic to Koreans, but exciting and welcoming to everyone experiencing pocha culture for the first time.
